This wonderful hotel has a perfect spot between the harbor and a big park that sits right on the sea. {2 stars}

Walking from the train station, go about 10 blocks until you hit the park. The hotel is on the left and a church on the right. You’ll pass a small amusement park just before the hotel. Best to let the hotel know when you are arriving as they need to buzz you in. One of the nicer places I stayed in Italy because of its position in an open space; affording views of the park, harbor and cathedral.

This family-run hotel, which was staffed only by the son Luca while I was there, is very clean and rooms are big with vaulted ceilings and are simply, but nicely decorated. My sunny room, a double with two single beds and a bathroom, was 50 euros/night and overlooked the lively piazza. The noise wasn’t bad despite hoards of people out filling the streets every night. It wasn’t hot, so closing the windows drowned out any noise and I enjoyed sitting in my window watching the activity when I wasn’t out wandering.

If you’re lucky, you might catch Luca playing guitar and singing on the balcony! They have a handy, mini folding map of the city which was really useful as the tourist office was closed while I was there. Cash only.

From journal: Trani in Puglia - Adriatic ambience

The Lucy has about eight rooms. Ours was clean, quiet, and basic. There is a shower en-suite, but no TV, telephone, or air conditioning.
We highly recommend this hotel. It is in a great location and very friendly. Our room overlooked the Piazza Plebiscito. The Piazza appears to have been recently pedestrianised, so the most noise we had was from the church across the square. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony and watching the world go by on the square below.
The Lucy does not have dining facilities, but the cafe downstairs was friendly and fun, and the hotel is in easy walking range from many restaurants in the port and old town of Trani.
The hotel insisted on us staying two nights before they would accept a reservation. This was fine for us, but could be a drawback. Also, the hotel will not accept credit card payments - cash only. We used the hotel as a base to visit the area around Trani and as a convenient departure point from Bari airport (about 45 minutes away). Parking near the hotel was easy - there are unmetered blue-marked parking places between the hotel and the harbour (about 200m from the hotel entrance). Unlike the white-marked places in front of the hotel, there is no limit on parking time in these blue-marked spots. There is also no charge to park in these spots.

Bari: Albergo Lucy: "A comfortable budget place to stay"

I'm sure Trani is wonderful on a warm day. When I visited in early October, the waves crashed against the sea wall. I suspect there are beachside hotels to stay in north and south of Trani. I stayed at Albergo Lucy in Trani, on a piazza near the beach. It's a simple place with a great price. It's clean and comfortable. Trani has some tremendous seafood restaurants. The Norman cathedral is worth the visit.

Trani: Albergo Lucy: "Best of Trani"

A perfect small hotel in a 17th century palace a few steps from the Trani Harbor and the city center; an unbeatable bargain at 50 euros (January) for a high ceiling double room with balcony. Albergo Lucy is very clean and especially quiet as it fronts a square -- Piazza Plebiscito--that has no automobile access. (An old church and convent are across the square and the convent has been converted to a women's prison, probably the source of the traffic control!) Trani itself is our favorite small city on Italy's Adriatic Coast--a real Italian city of 50,000 with a lovely harbor and none of the high rise vacation hotels that clutter the Adriatic Coast. Only drawback is no breakfast is available in the hotel but food stores (and excellent seafood restaurants) are close by.

A wonderful, family-run hotel in a perfect location next to a pretty park along the sea. Some rooms have a view of Trani's harbor and some have views of the piazza and church. Rooms are simple and elegant with high ceilings. Walkable to everything including the train station (about 10 blocks).
